Si è aperta ieri pomeriggio a Villa Zito la mostra del Crocifisso ligneo restaurato dalla parrocchia Santa Maria la Nuova con il contributo della Fondazione Sicilia. Il capolavoro del Cinquecento romano, è stato realizzato per volontà del Cardinale e Arcivescovo
Ludovico II Torres nel ‘500 inaugurato a termine del IV Sinodo.
Presenti alla inaugurazione il presidente di Fondazione Sicilia, Raffaele Bonsignore , l’arcivescovo di Monreale monsignor Michele Pennisi, l’arciprete del Duomo don Nicola Gaglio, il sindaco della cittadina normanna Alberto Arcidiacono e il segretario Generale del Comune Francesco Fragale. “Il Crocifisso ligneo – ha dichiarato monsignor Nicola Gaglio -ha in se una frande forza e riesce a coniugare la bellezza
monumentale alla devozione dei fedeli “.
Prima di essere restaurato, il Crocifisso era collocato nella cappella di San Paolo del Duomo di Monreale; nel 2017 è stato invece portato all’interno della cappella di San Benedetto, dove, dopo il restauro, il 15 marzo 2021 è stato custodito temporaneamente.
Fino al 10 gennaio 2022, l’esposizione sarà accompagnata da una videoinstallazione realizzata per l’occasione dalla GStudio ADV: un’immersione per immagini e suoni dell’opera d’arte nel duomo di Monreale.
